Concept Directions

Sample interior moods for Porto café commissions — design studies only

First Course

Ribeira morning light

Pale lime-wash walls, untreated pine counters, and linen shade pendants suit narrow embankment units that catch early sun across the Douro. Floor-to-ceiling glazing stays unobstructed so passers-by see activity inside without billboard signage.

We paired this direction with twelve covers and a single communal table for a Miragaia brief completed in 2024.

Second Course

Cedofeita warehouse loft

Exposed brick, black steel shelving, and polished concrete floors fit former textile workshops with three-metre ceilings. Pendant clusters at varied heights break up the volume so voice reflection does not turn the room into an echo chamber.

Roll-up garage doors open to a side lane for summer ventilation — a detail we specify in hardware schedules, not operational permits.

Third Course

Baixa lane intimacy

Dark walnut joinery, brass picture lights, and bottle-green banquettes create a compressed, evening-weight atmosphere in four-metre-wide shopfronts near São Bento station. Mirrors on the rear wall double perceived depth without structural alteration.

Counter depth stays shallow to preserve the central aisle required for emergency egress in single-frontage units.

Fourth Course

Foz terrace spill

Atlantic-facing properties in Foz do Douro benefit from indoor-outdoor material continuity: the same terrazzo tile runs from interior to covered terrace under a cedar pergola. Woven pendant shades tolerate salt air better than bare metal when specified with marine-grade fittings.

Wind-break glass panels hinge seasonally; we detail anchor points in the joinery drawings for contractor installation.

Fifth Course

Heritage azulejo restraint

A single 18th-century tile panel, restored and framed behind the espresso machine, anchors an otherwise muted room of grey micro-cement and ash chairs. This approach satisfies heritage officers while avoiding theme-restaurant excess on Rua das Flores.
